The 2025 East Africa AI & Digital Rights Training for Advocates is a prestigious and fully funded regional initiative designed to equip legal professionals with the knowledge, tools, and networks necessary to advance digital rights across East Africa. This initiative presents a critical opportunity for advocates in the region to deepen their expertise at the intersection of technology, law, and human rights.
The East Africa AI & Digital Rights Training for Advocates 2025 is a specialized program aimed at fostering legal capacity and thought leadership on key digital rights issues. These include data protection and privacy, freedom of expression online, access to information, algorithmic bias, surveillance, digital inclusion, and emerging AI-related governance frameworks.
Program Objectives
The training is designed to:
- Strengthen regional legal capacity to defend and promote digital rights and civil liberties in the age of AI.
- Equip legal practitioners with tools and strategies to navigate regulatory challenges involving data governance, surveillance technologies, and AI-based decision-making systems.

Requirements:
The program is open to:
- Qualified lawyers and legal advocates based in East Africa.
- Individuals with demonstrated interest or experience in digital rights, constitutional law, human rights, or technology law.
- Participants who can commit fully to the entire duration of the program and are ready to use the acquired knowledge in advocacy, litigation, or policy reform within their countries.
Program Structure:
Participants will engage in intensive sessions led by leading legal scholars, technology experts, judges, and civil society actors. The curriculum will cover:
